WISE Pedagogy and ALISE Distance Education SIG

WISE workshop at ALISE 2009, with attendees viewing live coverage of the Presidential Inauguration of Barack ObamaFor the past four years (2007-2010) WISE has offered face-to-face workshops at ALISE (Association for Library & Information Science Education) Conferences. Each pre-conference workshop has addressed key issues in online pedagogy for LIS instructors in a participatory environment with presentations and discussions lead by highly regarded educators in the field, and has been open to all ALISE attendees -- especially doctoral students -- who are interested in learning and discussing pedagogical practices that make online teaching more effective.

In 2009, the scheduled workshop overlapped the historic presidential inauguration of Barack Obama. Thanks to online technology, we were able to broadcast live coverage of this event in the conference room through a laptop hooked up to a projector. The photo to the right was taken during this occasion by Richard Urban, one of the workshop's featured presenters.
